Style guide and essays

The project's style guide contains most of the editorial guidelines developed by the project. The guide covers the following areas:

1. Naming conventions
2. Notability
3. Article content
4. Usage and style
5. Sourcing and citation
6. Templates
7. Categories

All project members are encouraged to consult the relevant portions of the guide as they work on articles.

Essays

The project also maintains a collection of essays consisting of the advice and opinions of individual members of the project.

Goals

1. To create a body of articles that accurately depicts the history and culture of Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans.
2. To highlight Puerto Rico's relationships and/or bringings to the rest of the world.
3. To standardize articles on Puerto Rico or Puerto Rican subjects. They should have similar layouts, formatting, etev.
4. To include all relevant information, making especially certain to include the voices of children, women, the poor, people of all races, and basically all the rest of the Puerto Rican society (providing the info. is sourced, of course).
5. To standardize the use of Spanish-language terms, names, and translations into English across the series.

Projects

• Elevate Puerto Rico article to feature status.
• Add content to Puerto Rico stub articles.
• Create a sound base of articles regarding Puerto Rico in general. For example, the following topics need major work: Economy of Puerto Rico, Transportation in Puerto Rico, Culture of Puerto Rico, Geography of Puerto Rico, Education in Puerto Rico, Geology of Puerto Rico, etc.

From the editor Hello, WikiProject Puerto Rico. This is the sixth issue of WikiProject Puerto Rico's newsletter. The newsletter is intended to help all members to keep up with the latest news relating to the project. Flags and records Greetings, during the past months, there has been a lot of activity and active discussion surrounding articles within our scope. Of particular interest is one that took place in Flag of Puerto Rico, in which several project members exposed their points of view regarding the tones of our flag. Ultimately, research brought forth a severe loophole in the regulation employed by the Senate of Puerto Rico. Our flag doesn't have official tones! Attempting to prevent future conflicts, I presented a proposal in the project's talk page. The subsequent discussion served as an perfect example of consensus. Thanks to everyone for your participation. In other news, our friend Tony the Marine added another impressive achievement to his brilliant resume. On December 8, 2008, his DYK hook for Ivan Castro (soldier) broke the previous all-time record for more views, receiving 71,300 visits. Project News On January 3, 2009, Cerejota presented a draft interested in establishing a solid style guide for the project. The current revision can be seen here, further suggestions can be placed in the project's talk page. Puerto Rican Campaign, Jewish immigration to Puerto Rico, Currencies of Puerto Rico and Sixto Escobar are now of good article quality. Facts from Isabel Gonzalez, Jewish immigration to Puerto Rico, Chinese immigration to Puerto Rico, Ivan Castro (soldier), Currencies of Puerto Rico, Orlando Antigua and Jaime Fonalledas were featured in the "Did you know..." section of the main page. List of Puerto Rican boxing world champions is currently a featured list candidate Luis Muñoz Rivera and Flag of Puerto Rico, articles within our scope, are currently good article nominees.
Puerto Rican Highlight On November 1, Jonathan González won the flyweight division's gold medal at the International Boxing Association's Youth World Championships. (Primera Hora) González joins John John Molina, Aníbal Santiago Acevedo, Carlos Febres and Daniel Alicea as gold medalists in this competition. Did you Know? That the Elfin-woods Warbler, an endemic bird of Puerto Rico first observed in 1968, is the last New World warbler species to be discovered?
